As an essential aspect of the educational process, nursery education forms a critical aspect in determining a child’s academic progress in primary school. The nursery stage is supposed to provide a child with appropriate life norms and values, but it is marred by some problems. The nursery stage must possess the capability of ensuring that a child starts his or her primary studies on the right academic pedestal. Indeed, the nursery stage is a vital point around which all academic activities revolve. However, the standard of graduates produced through various levels of education in Nigeria has been criticized over time for being exceedingly poor. As a solution, the government has been spending more on education; producing more trained teachers; establishing new schools, among others, in order to salvage the situation. Other parties such as parents have come up with ways of ensuring that their children start learning early through private tuition or enrolling them in nursery classes.. The theory is based on the notion that the more a kid is introduced to academic knowledge from an early age, the greater the likelihood that he will develop intellectually. This remains one of the contentious issues among scholars and educators. Moreover, answering this unresolved question will be done by the professionals in the educational sector (teachers). It is precisely for this reason that this research is geared towards finding out the perception of teachers regarding the effect of nursery education on the academic performance of primary school children in Enugu East LGA, Enugu State..
