ABSTRACT
This study investigated the influence of Socio-Psychological Factors on academic performance of secondary School students, in Jos Metropolis taking Jos North Local Government Area as a Case Study.
A total number of 200 students were used for the study. The instrument contained 24 items that dealt with Socio Psychological factors which includes family influence, financial problems, peer group influence, students’ attitude, background of the student and availability of textbooks.
The outcome of the study shows that, students’ psychological factors significantly affect their academic performance. Peer group influence has no effect on students academic performance in economics, student background also has no influence on the academic performance of students in economics, and parents’ financial problems affects the academic performance of students in economics.
The relationship of the family to students should be a positive one in order for the students to achieve more in the academic pursuit especially at Senior Secondary level.
