CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION 1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Today’s business office undergoes rapid change as a result of technological innovations, increased awareness and demands from the society. Business organization, especially the technological industry of 21St century operates in a complex environment characterized by these changing condition and highly unpredicted economic climate. Information and communication technology (ICT) is at the centre of this global change. They point out that entire cash flow of most fortunate 500 companies is linked to information. The adoption of ICT is defined as a collective term for a wide range of software, hardware, telecommunications and information management techniques, applications and devices, that are used to create, produce, analyze, process, package, distribute, receive, retrieve, store, and transform information (Brady et al.,2002).
The place of ICT in the training of today’s OTM students cannot be overemphasized. Advanced information and technological tools brings about reduced frustration and Improve level of awareness in an organization and among OTM students (Ato, 2004). Information technology has continued to change business offices and their corporate Relationship.
Ezeamarna, (2010): reported that information and communication technology refers to the various technologies that enhance the creation, storage, processing, communication and dissemination of information. It involves the different infrastructure used in these Processes, their application and numerous service, these infrastructure renders. In 1978 annual report, OTM students reported that the department made steady progress on its effort to effectively use of Information and communication technology (ICT) to improve the efficiency and the quality of service delivery on business sector. Manual training is radically changing all over the world. The volume and speed of handling transactions has improved tremendously as a result of the growth of information technology which has created a lot of business opportunities. Application of information and communication technology is capable of enhancing optimal performance in students training if appropriately carried out. Optimal utilization of facilities might be achieved if the design is done based on dear understanding of how the service is to be measured.
What prompted this work was the various computerization activities going on in the educational sectors and modem offices which has been accredited to the use of information and communication technology (ICT) In running of activities in 90% Nigeria offices. To this effect, the study shows that do to the technological advancement in training, OTM students can be able to work in this modern office. The study is to look at the place of information and communication technology in the training of Office technology and management student and also it threats since the use of ICT which has been an increase. Also to find it out if information and communication technology has really enhance the educational standard of OTM students compared to when it was not being used.
1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
Some of the problem that have been observed with the use of IT in the Training of OTM students includes; electricity, adequate personal who can handle their training and advanced ICT equipment that can facilitate the operation of the students. Before the introduction of ICT facilities in the training of OTM students, for some years ago they suffer unquantifiable In other to learn and know about modern office activities, tut thank to scholar for the advent of ICT for upgrading. The information and educational sector. The problem associated with the study is to determine the true position of ICT in the training of Office technology management student (OTM), and what they should achieve if it will align with the global Information.
1.3 OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY
The main purpose of this study is to assess the place of ICT in the training of today’s OTM student. Thus, the main thrust of this research is to achieve the following:

The significance of the study cannot be over emphasize., The study enables the ICT sector, see the need for information and communication in the day to day running of its activities and contribution, information and communication technology has on the efficiencies of its service to Nigeria OTM students, the study also provides an insight into the various ways in which Information and communication technology functions in various school and offices as to increase its productivity. The study will also reveal the need for improvement in the educational sector so as to satisfy the demanding, desires of 0Th students to compete with their counter parts in the training sector. This will also be beneficial to students that will carry out further research work and also to Government for policy making implementation.

This study covers the place of IT in the training of OTM students. It would be carried out in OTM department; Ken Saro Wiwa polytechnic Bori.
1.7 DEFINITION OF TERMS
OTM STUDENTS: This means office technology and management students.
ICT: This is a technology that supports activities involving information. Such activities include gathering, processing, storing and presenting data. Increasingly these activities also involve collaboration and communication.
TRAINING: This is a process of undergoing a series of learning on a particular field or profession. It is also an act of learning.
AGE: In accordance to this research work, it has to do with a set time or season of something.
PLACE: This according to the research work is a stands of something.
