CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION 1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Here in Nigeria, and other developing countries where poverty reign Radio is one of the medium where a large population can be reached and the means of receiving it, there by bringing about national development with agricultural increasing literacy, raising public health standards, spreading information about nutrition and reducing population growth through birth control and danger of over population. Radio is one of the medium which has the potentials to reach so many people, so efficient for information, educational, cultural and entertainment purposes.
Today’s people live and develop in a society that offers tremendous choice and challenges during the formative period of adolescence. There was no sure means of knowing. The fact remains that many people believe that there was and many too, believe that the mass communication are some extent responsible.
Concern with this responsibility, real or imagined had led in different countries to inquired, surveys and investigation of various sorts to the adoption of recommendations and codes of ethics for the media to the drawing up censorship laws. Few attempts, however, have been made to approach the problem on the international scale.
In Nigeria, Radio broadcasting has focused itself on local activities, accessible to the state populace. They utilize them in expressing their very existence and their particular needs and formulating plans, and organizing actions to meet them therefore, Radio is said to be indispensable component in state development.
In state government, Radio has been an instrument for the achievement of modernization and encouragement of creativity, mobilization of local resource to solve problems.
This research work will attempt to find out if actually Radio has contributed effectively towards the fight against corruption in the state as well as determining the extent of its impact in the development of state government.
1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
Before the invention of Radio, corruption has continued to spread in many countries, especially among the people, it has been concluded that Radio interventions is not an effective, means of preventing the spread of corruption among the people.
Again, the addition to the standard prevention and reduction of violence, Radio has set up certain strategy, organizing of programmes, also promote discussion on the negative effect of violence, through communication, adverts etc. recognize and capitalize assiduously as a means of prevent among the people (the people to be precise) still behave and give no concerns to all this effort.
There is therefore, the need to investigate or review the effectiveness of the Radio on the prevention of corruption spreading and other related abuses from our people in our society.
1.3 PURPOSE OF THE STUDY
This study was carried out to critically examine and analyze with the view to ascertain the effect of Radio on the war against corruption in the state areas. The researchers will emphasis how governmental groups and individuals contribute to the development of state areas through the Radio.
Furthermore, effort will be made to find out from the subject to be selected, the extent of attention they pay to various programmes on the Radio. Having rejected the notion of the Radio as a cause, but agreed that they shared in the responsibility for its spread, the nature and extent of this responsibility. What is the real influence of Radio and how it is exercised?
Since the Radio do not work in a vacuum.
This attempt at analysis required a closure look at the structure and functioning of Radio themselves, of the societies in which they operate, and of the audience in which they reach.
None of these society, medium, or audience is the same everywhere, at all time or under all conditions and can’t react on the other, because the Radio is part of a circuit a relay. Another relay is the society in which they function. This society also included institution besides the Radio, the family, the schools, the religious and political regimes.
1.4 RESEARCH QUESTIONS

The following hypothesis were formulated at 0.05 level of significance.
There is no significant difference between the effect of Radio on war against corruption in Nigeria and it’s mode of usage by the society.
There is no significant difference between the impact of Radio in Nigeria and its influence on the society.
1.6 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
This study will in a long way help to provide justifiable evidence for recommending that these types of interventions till implement more widely in the present and future.
It will also help us to ascertain whether or not, the Radio programmer has positive effects on corruption among the people.
1.7 SCOPE OF THE STUDY
The research word is limited to Rivers State Television Authority RSTV Nigeria. Moreover, considering the fact that the project was written within a short period of time, the researcher was restricted to only the materials she could lay hands on within the limited time frame.
1.8 DEFINITION OF TERMS
The following terms are defined as used in the context of this study.
Effect: A strong or effect of something on something.
Radio: An audio electronic device which is used to disseminate information as a large audience
War: A fight between two or more communities.
Corruption: This can be seen as crime, problem or an act of engaging in illegal practice.
