ABSTRACT
This study focused on the assessment of government policies and programme implementation strategies and the extent at which the Kaduna State Poverty Alleviation Programme has not been able to attain its goals of eradicating poverty in the state. The research work pointed out the role of government in policy making and implementation, the problems of policy implementation and a review of past government policies and programmes on poverty alleviation.
The study concluded that the success of any government policy depends on the implementation strategy of government. In other words adequate and effective policy and programme implementation process and national development are connected to each other.
Based on the findings of this research work, government should set up quality goal monitoring and coordinating mechanism for proper policy and programme implementation and the need to minimize bureaucracy and create an atmosphere for value added public service of a purposeful and computer literate human resource personnel.
