Academic resources shortages are one of the issues that university/polytechnic students in Nigeria encounter when doing their research and project works. This is an issue that may affect the research process negatively. For instance, while researching and doing their projects, Nigerian students may find it difficult to carry out research on the internet journals and books, among other sources of information, since they lack sufficient academic resources. In addition, some schools lack sufficient library access and the cost of looking for information on various databases is high. There is need for the students to learn how to utilize such free sources of information like Google Scholar and institutional repositories that have many research papers.

Secondly, poor researching skills are another problem facing many Nigerian university students. This could be because of poor data collecting techniques, poor data analysis techniques, or poor topic selection. Students can select topics that are either too broad or too narrow to conduct their research. Poor researching skills can also mean poor researching techniques. Moreover, it would be much easier to train Nigerian students on how to be good researchers if their supervisors mentor them well enough and allow them to learn through teaching aids such as YouTube, where there are numerous research tutorial videos and academic paper writing guides. Alternatively, the students could take part in a research approach workshop.

Effective time management is another crucial concern. Students always keep delaying their work and begin doing them only at the eleventh hour which results in substandard research. This may be further exacerbated by the fact that there are other issues that students need to attend to besides classes, hence not having enough time for studying. Possibly, one option would be to consider using a task manager such as Trello for the purpose of task description and scheduling. Additionally, task allocation will not only become simpler but increase efficiency.

The problem of lack of monetary resources has also been a constraint to conducting research activities in the field. For instance, it is hard for two students to move from one place to another to collect information and printing is another cost and not all the time can students afford the necessary literature materials. One possible way of solving this problem is by utilizing technologically advanced methods in the process of collecting information such as online survey which is much cheaper.

Plagiarism is an important matter. Due to several reasons, including lack of time or self-confidence, some people are tempted to duplicate the work of the writer, but without crediting the writer. As a solution to this, students need to be aware of skills, such as paraphrasing and referencing, and efficient use of writing software such as Grammarly. The significance of research in order to generate something new instead of duplicating something already exists cannot be overemphasized...

In addition, the project may be held back if the project supervisors are not able to adequately guide the students or if the students and supervisors do not have a good communication. At some occasions, students are not appropriately guided and however some students get demotivated and do not bother trying to get any assistance from the supervisors. Teachers who try to motivate and guide their students throughout the period and whose feedback and advice is very important for the students to succeed in research. In general, the problems faced by the Nigerian students in carrying out their research are generally very difficult. These problems, even so, are quite workable, and students are able to surmount these problems and produce excellent research papers by incorporating the right approach with materials to use, the enhancement of research skills, the best management of their time and the right techniques.
